Central Gujarat varsities seek global tie-ups

Most educational institutes in central Gujarat have signed multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with foreign universities during the recently concluded International Conference on Academic Institutions (ICAI) 2013, held as part of the Vibrant Gujarat summit. While the M S University (MSU) entered into collaboration with 11 institutes from the UK, the US, Canada, Russia, Bhutan and Rwanda, Anand Agricultural University (AAU) and Vallabh Vidyanagar-based Sardar Patel University (SPU) signed three and six MoUs, respectively.

The SPU has signed letter of expression of intent for academic programmes with US-based Alabama State University, Montgomery, and two UK-based universities- the University of Central Lancashire and The Higher Education Academy, Heslington. Besides, SPU is also collaborating with France-based Centre Culturel Indien Tagore, Marseille while those Indian education institutes with which SPU has signed MoUs include MSU and Patan-based Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University.

The AAU on its part has signed MoUs with the Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) Initiatives of IIM Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar-based Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI). During the conference, it also signed a MoU with Hyderabad’s Orchem Industries Private Limited (popularly known as Orchem India) for licensing of its indigenously developed date palm tissue culture technology.

The city-based Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, too, has signed 22 MoUs at the ICAI including those with US-based Mount Sinai School of Medicine and MINDS Foundation, UK-based University of Lancashire, University of Bhutan and 18 others with state and national-level institutes.

Vibrant Gujarat Summit: Canadian PM lauds Gujarat’s entrepreneurial spirit

Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper, has lauded the entrepreneurial spirit of Gujarat and said that the state is playing an important role in strengthening Canada-India relations. In a letter to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Canadian PM said that Gujarat, one of India’s most dynamic and industrious states, is world-renowned for its entrepreneurial spirit. “The state is an important partner for Canada thanks to its strategic location, strong economic credentials, and multilingual skilled workforce,” Harper said in the letter. Canada is one of the partners of Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2013,. Describing Vibrant Gujarat Summit as an international platform which provides a wonderful opportunity to foster new commercial relationships and enhance people-to-people ties, Harper said that Canada recently opened a trade office in Ahmedabad to facilitate new business and trade opportunities for Canada and the Gujarati community.“I would like to thank the Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat government for their contributions to strengthening Canada-India relations,” the Canadian Prime Minister added.

Canada showcases trade and investment opportunities at India’s Vibrant Gujarat

As a partner country, Canada had significant presence at the 2013 Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summit (VG2013), from January 11 to 13, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. With precursor events starting on January 8, VG2013 brought together business leaders, investors, corporations, industry experts, policy and opinion makers and over 500 exhibitors with over 40,000 visitors attending from India and more than 100 countries. Highlights of Canada’s presence at VG2013 included: Canada Country seminar on January 11; Canada-Gujarat Trade and Investment Opportunities seminar on January 12; Canada Business Partnering Forum (match-making event); Canada Pavilion with provincial representations at the Trade Show and an Education Pavilion at the Trade Show Delegates also participated in the International Conference for Academic Institutions on January 9 and 10, the Innovation Convention on January 9 and the Technology Convention on January 10.

The 6th Vibrant Gujarat Investor’s Summit is planned from 11th to 13th January 2013 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar; Gujarat. As a part of pre-summit activities, Government of Gujarat planning to organize an ICAI 2013, which will be a two day event on 9th and 10th January 2013 at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), Gandhinagar.

Gujarat – the most progressive state, located in the western part of India, is home to several globally eminent academic institutes and Centres of Excellences in different fields viz. Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad; Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar; National Institute of Design (NID), Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) etc. Currently, the State has around 51 universities and over 1,400 institutes of higher education affiliated to these universities catering to over 7 million students.

To improve existing tie ups and develop new collaborations; the State of Gujarat Government has organized ICAI 2013. The first edition International Conference for Academic Institutions (ICAI) was organized as an one day event during the Vibrant Gujarat 2011 Summit and nearly 33 delegates from 25 universities representing 9 countries attended ICAI 2011 and nearly 74 MoUs / Letter of Intentions (LoIs) for collaborations between Gujarat universities, foreign universities and Gujarat industries were signed / acknowledged reputes from various countries.

The Government of Gujarat is inviting Provost, Vice-Chancellors, Directors / Dean of Universities to participate in the event.
