Surge In Indian Applicants For Master’s in AI at Overseas Universities

Students from India are increasingly travelling overseas in order to pursue Master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence (AI). The number of applications for prospective Indian students has doubled in the last year alone.
The AI industry currently faces a talent in shortage and specialists are in high demand. Furthermore, 20-30% of students have been said to desire a master’s specialization over a MBA. Students see AI as a field that is not only trending upward in terms of popularity but one that will lead to employability.

Canadian Unis Report Bump in Applications for 2017

Canadian universities are reporting significant increases in the number of foreign applications received for this year. For many institutions, year-over-year growth is often on the order of 20-30% or more.
The increase is being attributed to political developments in the UK and US, but also to expanded recruiting by Canadian institutions and the relative affordability of Canadian education.

A Trump effect? Many Canadian universities are reporting large gains in international applications at the same time some American universities are seeing declines.
Leigh-Ellen Keating, who directs international services for Brock University, in Ontario, just attended a student recruiting fair in Mexico. “The table was flooded with people, which is not historically what I have seen with the Mexican market,” she said. “They just want to go to Canada, and historically I think a lot of them would go to the States.”

OCAS Releases Information Page for Immigrant Applicants

The Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) has launched a new page on its applicant-facing website specifically for immigrant applicants. The new page, titled Applying to College as an Immigrant Student, is available in English and French and provides information to aid immigrants in the application process, including programs and services, what to expect during the application process, financial aid opportunities, language proficiency requirements, and links to government resources. The online resource was developed in partnership with the Colleges Ontario College Sector Immigrant Programs and Services Committee (CSIPS), and consists of information based on discussions with focus groups with immigrant students and college staff.
TCS Insights: The OCAS is working to ease the process of applying to schools in a new country for immigrants. By relieving some of the stress associated with this task, students have even more of a reason to consider furthering their studies in Ontario.

Since our creation, CIEC has gradually evolved into a valuable bridge between Canada & India and is poised to soon become the “go to” organization for Canada-India academic relations. CIEC is one of only a few organizations offering critical ‘on the ground’ presence in both countries and helps Institutions position themselves advantageously in an increasingly competitive environment. CIEC combines corporate governance with the benefits of a public-private partnership balanced with an entrepreneurial methodology to remain independent and yet be financially sustainable.
CIEC has invested countless hours and resources in paving the way for academics, organizations, governments and other stakeholders to collectively work with each other and have helped lay the foundation for smooth academic relationships and exchanges. We are proud of our accomplishments in this short span but also realize that we have only just begun to scratch the surface. Besides planning delegations, organizing missions (recruiting & otherwise) and hosting our flagship annual ‘Synergy’ Conference for over 6 years, there remains much more to do and many opportunities to be seized.
